Gone are the days when retirement living was tied to the stigma of rundown facilities and old-fashioned aged care options.

Retirement is a new beginning to be enjoyed – one where you choose the way to live your life.

Today’s retirees have a growing number of options available when thinking about how they will spend their later years.

Some are tempted to stay in their homes, others are interested in downsizing – while residential care homes are potential options, too.

But, for people who want to continue to enjoy an independent and fulfilling life, a Southern Cross Care (SCC) Independent Living Unit could be a better alternative.

SCC Sales Consultant Adam Green said its Independent Living Units provide friendly and independent living communities.

“At SCC, we don’t build retirement villages – we create independent living communities, bringing like-minded people together in a wonderful community full of choice and freedom,” Mr Green explained.

“In selecting one of our villages, you will be part of a community that enhances choice of independent living. You will be able to live an active and healthy life that offers an aspirational lifestyle, safety, security and peace of mind – right at your door step.”

Villages are in close proximity to public transport, a range of amenities, as well as beautiful lakes and gardens.

Village community centres offer a comfortable place for social and recreational activities plus regular events, visiting entertainers, and organised outings on the village bus.

Of course, it is completely up to residents to be involved as much or as little as they like.

A full-time village manager and staff provide personal support and are present to assist residents with any concerns, while a 24-hour emergency call system offers a peace of mind.

If the need for care increases, there are now “Home Care Packages” for residents to get added care services within the comfort of their own home.

“Residents can have peace of mind knowing they can take advantage of the broad range of in-home health and wellness services offered by Southern Cross Care, if or when they need them in the future,” Mr Green added.

Southern Cross Care (WA) Inc was created by the order of the Knights of the Southern Cross in 1966.

Today, it has developed into one of the largest and leading aged care providers delivering care, support and accommodation to more than 3000 Western Australians with villages available in Shelley, Hilton, Cloverdale, Forrestfield, Rossmoyne, and Success.

Southern Cross Care’s services include home care, dementia care, respite services, retirement living, residential care, affordable housing, and mental health services.
