The wind and the rain was not enough to deter some 100 soccer players, who flocked from parishes and communities across the Archdiocese of Perth and beyond, to Thornlie Parish last weekend to put their skills to the test.

The fourth annual Sacred Heart Thornlie Soccer Tournament saw 17 teams vying for the cup and bragging rights, with a high standard of footballing ability on display throughout the day-long event on Sunday 14 October.

With Baldivis, Kelmscott, Armadale and Manning Parishes among the teams present, the event also saw a team all the way from Bunbury Diocese make the trip up to compete.

Free scoring Deus Vult blazed through all opposition and ran out winners of the tournament, scoring a total of 22 goals and only conceding twice.

Thornlie Parish Priest Fr Minh-Thuy Nguyen was on hand to present the winning team with the trophy and prizes to cap off a memorable day.
