The Young Christian Workers (YCW) annual appeal on 27 May has raised awareness for its fellow co-workers overseas.

Held at Catholic Pastoral Centre, the night saw past and present YCW workers, as well as newcomers, gather for dinner, games and fellowship.

The night started with a video of testimonies from Perth YCW workers and volunteers.

Guests then engaged in a number of group games and activities that were based on the organisation’s philosophy of See, Judge, Act.

Participants were divided into two groups and played a Pictionary-style game, charades and a game where they had to guess true or false facts about opposition group members.

All proceeds from the night went to International YCW, to support its work and mission. Those unable to attend were permitted to make an online donation.

“Perth YCW supports the work that International YCW does because it has continued to spread the Cardijn message across the world and we want to play our part to ensure that this message continues to be spread,” Perth YCW Youth Worker, Ashley Carvalho, told The eRecord.

“As a local group in a developed nation, we also recognise that it is our duty to assist those in developing nations who do incredible work in the face of destitute circumstances.”

Ms Carvalho also spoke on YCW’s ongoing work in Perth and plans for expansion and volunteering.

“Young Christian Workers continues to be active throughout Perth through our three key review groups, located in Baldivis, Balcatta and Fremantle,” she said.

“We also regularly hold discussion nights and social events for all our YCW members throughout Perth as well as the general Perth community.

“YCW is looking to expand in Perth in the coming months and looks forward to the Cardijn message being spread.

“We are also currently looking into a few volunteering initiatives for members to engage with, namely in the area of prison ministry and refugee assistance.”
