The Trustees of St John of God Health Care (SJGHC) announced the appointment of Dr Julie Caldecott to the SJGHC board earlier this month.

Dr Caldecott has more than 20 years’ experience as a consultant to the public and private sectors, with a focus on consumer goods and health, for Boston Consulting Group (BCG) where she was a Director and Partner until 2011.

She trained as a medical practitioner prior to joining BCG and has an MBA from Melbourne Business School, University of Melbourne.

Her previous Board memberships include non-executive directorships at the Royal Children’s Hospital, Melbourne; the Traffic Accident Commission, Victoria; and the Institute for Safety, Compensation and Recovery Research. She has served on numerous sub-committees, including those focusing on clinical quality and safety, and finance, transformation and investment.

SJGHC Chairman of Trustees Eva Skira said Dr Caldecott’s commercial experience, combined with her medical training, would enable her to contribute significantly to SJGHC.

“Dr Caldecott has led some highly complex projects, including in the health care sector, both in Australia and internationally, throughout her career.

“Her broad commercial experience and, in particular, her deep understanding of the strategic issues in the health care sector will be a valuable asset to SJGHC.”

SJGHC Board Chairman Tony Howarth also welcomed Dr Caldecott’s appointment.

“Dr Caldecott brings a set of skills and experience which round out a diverse and strong Board and I look forward to working with her.”

Dr Caldecott is the third of a number of recent appointments to the SJGHC Board. Other recent appointments include Hon Rob Knowles AO, Victorian Minister for Health from 1996-99, and Justin Carroll, Managing Partner of Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC) Australia’s Perth office.
