The garage sale hosted by an Ocean Reef family on two separate weekends has successfully raised $2,600 for homeless people in the Philippines.

Peter and Margaret Laundy’s home welcomed numerous visitors on both weekends, who donated for their purchases.

Amongst items purchased were furniture, electronics, linen, clothes, shoes, toys, books, homeware, jewellery and sporting equipment.

Donations started arriving in the weeks leading up to the sale and all proceeds went to Buckets for Jesus’ housing appeal, which builds homes for the homeless in the Philippines.

The Laundys have been supporting Buckets for Jesus’ ministries, and even followed them on their January apostolic mission to the Philippines.

Mrs Laundy spoke of her experience during the mission trips and how it inspired her family to host the garage sale.

“After witnessing the devastation following numerous typhoons, the thought of housing a family with funds from a couple of weeks of hard work is very inspiring,” she said.

Buckets for Jesus’ rebuilding appeal builds new homes for disaster-affected families for as little as $2,000 a house.

“The funds will enable Buckets for Jesus to provide another home to a destitute family and help realise their vision of helping the poorest of the poor,” Mrs Laundy said.
