The Knights of the Southern Cross are preparing for World Youth Day in Brazil by holding their inaugural KSC Perth Archdiocesan Youth Soccer Cup on June 29.

Organisers are encouraging parishes and groups throughout Western Australia to get their teams ready to play at Mercedes College, Perth.

The competition is open to anyone in the Archdiocese of Perth, and the Dioceses of Bunbury, Geraldton, and Broome.

Players must be 16 years and over to play.

Parish priests are encouraged to play and any team fielding a priest will be awarded bonus points.

The day will be a festive one with a world food fair to accompany the action on and off the field.  Organisers are asking community groups to put their names forward to help out with food at the fair.

News of prizes and trophies for winning teams will be announced shortly, one organiser told The Record, with entertainment also to be advised.

“The game is on, rain, hail or shine. We will move indoors if the weather turns sour,” the organiser said, referring to Mercedes’ generous facilities.

“A huge thanks to Mrs Sheena Barber and Mrs Rosa Sperenza and the Executive Council of Mercedes College for their support of this KSC event,” he said, adding that any offers of sponsorship would be gratefully received.

All proceeds from the day will go towards supporting Youth in the Archdiocese of Perth and WA.

Entry is $60 per side and gold coin donation for parking and spectators. Parking will be available at Mercedes College, Goderich Street entry.
