An internationally acclaimed course designed to deepen participants’ personal relationship with Christ is being held in Western Australia for the first time.

Organisers of the course are hoping as many people as possible will take advantage of this unique opportunity.

The School of Discipleship, which began at Sts John and Paul Parish in Willetton several weeks ago, is the inspiration of Dubai-based Catholic evangelist, Aneel Aranha.

After a powerful conversion, Mr Aranha founded Holy Spirit Interactive in 2004, which became a lay Catholic apostolate recognised as an Association of Faith and Outreach.

He has since travelled across the globe presenting the Discipleship course, both personally and in a DVD presentation.

The course is delivered over eight modules, with each module consisting of five weekly sessions, but Perth facilitator, Stephen Subramaniam, has no doubts the commitment will change the lives of anyone who participates.

“This is not a mainstream course,” he stated, “this is for those people who are wanting to know Christ and understand their faith in a deeper way.”

Mr Subramaniam said that those who have participated in the first few weeks are extremely excited about their involvement and are encouraging others to join in.

“This is a wonderful program that is gathering momentum throughout the country,” he said.

“There are courses commencing in Melbourne, Sydney, Adelaide and Auckland throughout this year and I hope more people will come along and discover the richness on offer. It is not too late to join.”

The weekly Scripture-based program, which is held on a Friday evening, consists of Praise and Worship, DVD presentations, guest speakers, small group sharing and a meal.

Mr Subramaniam said he understands the difficulties some people may have in fulfilling such a long commitment, which is why adjustments have been made to allow for flexibility.

“What is most important, however, is that those who participate make a commitment in their hearts,” he shared.

“It is not a commitment you make with leaders of the group; it is one that each person must ultimately make with God.”
