The importance of connecting with God and the Holy Spirit each day was a key message for attendees at a recent healing event by Catholic evangelist, Alan Ames.

More than 200 people were present at the event, which was held on Thursday 6 April at Our Lady of the Most Blessed Sacrament Church in Gosnells.

It included a Mass celebrated by Parish Priest Father Philip Perreau and con-celebrated by Fr Richard Rutkauskas, who is Mr Ames’ Spiritual Director.

Mr Ames, who has addressed crowds across Australia and around the world since beginning his ministry 22 years ago, said that God’s love for us was ever-present but often forgotten as we go about our daily lives.

“I told people to turn to the Holy Spirit each day and ask the Holy Spirit to reach into their soul. This makes God’s love inside us stronger and helps us to reach out to others,” he said.

He added that people should take time out to speak to God every day, to help overcome a focus on self and material things.

“The world places barriers between us and God,” Mr Ames said.

“Jesus will lead you beyond that, we should ask Jesus every day to lead us in this life, to help us look beyond ourselves and the world.”

Before taking on his evangelical role, Mr Ames, who is originally from England, spent years away from the Church and as a member of a motorcycle gang.

But in 1994, he had a spiritual experience which set him on a different path.

“I went and spoke to Emeritus Archbishop Barry Hickey and he gave me permission to speak to people in the Archdiocese,” Mr Ames said.

With invitations pouring in and having given speeches in more than 50 countries, Mr Ames said that God has opened a door for him to do this.

“I can feel Him touching me when I am speaking and I can see my words touching people, it’s wonderful.”

Attendees at the event were also given the opportunity to take part in the Sacrament of Confession, administered by Glendalough Parish Priest Fr Doug Harris and Thornlie Parish Priest Fr Thomas Zureich.

Mr Ames will be hosting another healing talk on Thursday 5 October at Kwinana Parish.
