Catholic Homes Incorporated’s Lifestyle Coordinator, Trudy Turner, was last month recognised for her work winning the inaugural Bethanie Medallion for Wellbeing at a ceremony held in Perth on Wednesday, 23 September.

Ms Turner has worked at Catholic Homes’ Ocean Star Village (Ocean Star) for the past two years as a Lifestyle Facilitator and Occupational Therapy Assistant, and has been instrumental in the implementation of the Montessori Approach to Care – a person-centred approach that emphasises choice, independence, engagement and connectedness to the community.

“It’s an honour to be recognised among my peers for the work I have done at Ocean Star.

“I think we all need to remember that, as we age, we don’t lose our identities, we all deserve to live in places that give us the opportunity to remain active and engaged with our community,” Ms Turner said.

“The programs I have been able to implement with the support of our management team have had remarkable results. We have increased participation and engagement, and everyone is happier,” Ms Turner said.

Catholic Homes Chief Executive Sonya Smart said Trudy is a worthy winner. She is a true professional and extremely dedicated and passionate about her work in aged care.

“In the two years she has been in the role, Trudy has been able to reinvigorate the Ocean Star community with higher levels of engagement and participation from residents. Trudy’s passion for aged care is infectious and the approach she has taken has significantly enhanced the lives of everyone living and working there,” she said.

The Bethanie Medallion Awards are presented in recognition of an individual or organisation having a history of consistently delivering an exceptional standard of service within the Aged Care sector.
