Catholic Education Western Australia (CEWA) has last week introduced Catholic educators to “Claned”, a learning platform that will play a central role in the system’s digital future.

Two members of the Claned team travelled from Finland to Perth last week to give a range of CEWA staff a week of hands-on training in their world-leading digital learning platform, demonstrating how it will enrich learning for CEWA students and staff through real-time analytics and social learning opportunities.

Claned is designed to engage learners with relevant learning content, enable them to share and create material, and promote collaboration in learning experiences through a user interface that any user of social media networks will be comfortable with.

Claned’s Chief Educational Scientist, Topi Litmanen, said that the company had put a lot of work into developing the accessibility of the platform so that users could focus on creating content with a set of tools with which they immediately feel comfortable.

“It has been an intensive but rewarding week so far running workshops with CEWA staff; all the participants have learned to use the platform quickly,” he said.

“We have had very enlightening discussions with participants and gathered ideas on how they would like to use Claned in their own work, and are happy to be part of CEWA’s learning transformation”.

Claned is a pillar of CEWA’s LEADing Lights digital transformation process, which is aiming to reimagine learning in WA Catholic schools, and maximise learning experiences for staff and students alike through increased and streamlined digital connectivity.

The Claned platform will be implemented first for CEWA staff, and will continue to be refined to meet the needs of the system before being introduced for student and parent use.

CEWA Executive Director, Dr Tim McDonald, said that partnering with Claned would help WA Catholic school communities offer vibrant cultures of curiosity and collaboration that provided students and educators with world-class learning experiences.

“The aim of our digital transformation is to see all members of our schools and colleges develop a greater love for life-long learning, to discover new ways to learn together, and to best prepare our students for a future full of inevitable changes

“It has been fantastic this week to try out the Claned platform and experience how user-friendly it is. I am truly excited to see how this platform will support the excellent learning already taking place in Catholic schools across the state.”
