Iona Presentation College Class of 2013 graduate, Destiny Boyd was recently announced as the national winner of the Prime Minister’s Award for Skills Excellence in School.

In announcing the award, Federal Assistant Minister for Education, the Hon Sussan Ley MP said that although Destiny missed a significant amount of primary school due to difficult family circumstances at the time her quiet determination and perseverance has more than made up for lost time.

“Her ‘never-say-die’ attitude was also evident too in her refusal to any interference with her study for her Certificate III in Education Support,” Ms Ley said.

“During the time she was working towards that Certificate, Destiny also achieved more than fourteen A-grade achievement levels during Years 11 and 12 at school, for which she was awarded a Certificate of Commendation.

“At the same time she engaged in a range of co-curricular activities, including representing her school in athletics, soccer, softball and volleyball, as well as being an active member of the Peter Beneson Human Rights service group.

“Destiny is keenly aware of the privilege and possibilities of education, and speaks of the ‘thrill and joy’ of teaching and interacting with young children as she moves towards her dream of becoming a pre-primary teacher.

“Destiny has faced more challenges than most adolescents.  It is testament to her maturity, tenacity and, most of all, to her bright spirit, that she has won through and won through in with flying colours,” Ms Ley said.

Destiny has now started her Bachelor of Education at Notre Dame University.
